Revision Buddies

Our ‘Revision Buddy’ scheme has been very popular and covers all ages from 9, 11+, 13+, Common Entrance, GCSE and AS/A2 levels, IB and Pre-U as well as specific help for some undergraduates.

A Revision Buddy is typically a bright undergraduate or someone who has very recently graduated. Although they have no formal teaching training most of our Revision Buddies do have some experience of teaching, tutoring or helping younger students with their work.

Just dropping you a line to say Will is here with us and he’s doing a great job… We like him very much and he’s working hard and galloping through the revision with Jim’

How it works

The idea, quite simply, is that a Revision Buddy is much less formal than a tutor. We try to match a Revision Buddy with their student so that not only are the subjects they are revising complementary but also so they have interests in common or have, perhaps, even been to the same school.

Revision Buddies provide inspiration to the students that they are helping, are great role models and can really inspire them to aim high.

I just wanted to forward you a message from his housemaster just now regarding his progress!  It’s incredible and we are blown away with your service. … I watched him shift into gear that week and actually enjoy learning. So impressed!’

More than just subject matter

Learning should be fun and so we recommend longer working Revision Buddy sessions so that there is time for breaks, to take the dog for a walk, have a milkshake or to play tennis. (There is nothing more effective than learning your Chemistry formulae on the tennis court!)

As well as helping with a specific subject, a Revision Buddy also helps with study skills, how to revise, how to answer exam questions and general tips on how to learn effectively. They will also help with exam technique. Most importantly they can keep testing and checking that all that stuff is going in. They are adept at confidence-building and inspiring self-belief.

Eleanor has been an absolute marvel, we love her! I really recommend her very highly, both children have truly enjoyed having help with their maths and she has been a delight to have in the house. So easy and fun and even came out for supper with us all.’

Who our Revision Buddies are

Revision Buddies are high-achievers with recent knowledge and experience of sitting public exams, they are familiar with exam boards and syllabuses and know how to approach the task of revising and learning effectively.

At CE and GCSE level a Revision Buddy can usually work across most subjects. For A level we would find a Revision Buddy reading that specific subject at university and for undergraduates we would find a post grad who has read the same subject and passed with flying colours.

‘…a reluctant Louis far preferred him to the somewhat old school teacher he has been with up until now…’

Their help was so valuable; I can’t thank you enough for getting me in touch with the right people. I am absolutely thrilled to have got in. Thank you.’

Revision Buddies can be residential working for between 4 and 6 hours each day (depending on the age of your child) or we can try to find someone who will come to you for a single session of 3+ hours.

A Revision Buddy can mentor, enthuse, encourage and build confidence and we know from our own experience that a Revision Buddy can take away the stress and anxiety of revision for parent and pupil alike.
